SBI assures to open additional bank branch

PASIGHAT, May 02: The chief manager of SBI regional office, Itanagar has assured Pasighat MLA Kaling Moyong to open an additional Bank branch at Pasighat soon and also to install ATMs in DC/SP office, General Hospital, Horticulture college and in market areas immediately to ensure hassle-free service to the people. The assurance came when the MLA met the chief manager and held discussion on improvement of banking service.

MLA Moyong also informed that he has also written to all other bank authorities to open their ATMs in other places of the township. DIPRO

Free fish seed distribution

ITANAGAR, May 02: Fisheries Department will distribute fish seeds among the progressive fish farmers of Papum Pare district free of cost from May five to encourage them in fish farming. Fish seeds will be distributed at Leporiang, Mengio, Sagalee, Parang, and Toru on May 8, Tarasso, Balijan and Sangdupota on May 10, Kakoi, Kimin, Banderdewa, Doimukh and Capital on May 13.

The left out will be distributed on May 21, according Fisheries Development officer.

Another aim of the free distribution is to utilize unused ponds for aquaculture thereby enhancing fish production.

Secretary Education transferred to Delhi

ITANAGAR, May 02: R.K Mishra, Secretary (Education), who has been transferred from Arunachal Pradesh to New Delhi was given a grand farewell at function organized by Department of Education.

The function was attended by T. Padu, Director H&T Education, T. Taloh, Director Secondary Education, B. Yirang, Director Elementary Education, Opak Gao, Director SSA, RM, Likha Tejji, Under Secretary (Education) along with entire seniors officers and officials of Department of Education. The representatives of AAPSU, the President of ATA, the President BEO Association and other stakeholders of education department participated and made the farewell function a memorable event.

All the Directors while wishing happy and joyful depart of secretary conveyed their gratitude and endearment to the outgoing Secretary (Education) and placed on record the contributions made by him for all round development of Education department during his tenure.

Mishra while addressing the officers shared his experience of working with the senior administrators of education department and extended thanks to Chief Minister, Minister Education, Parliamentary Secretary, Chief Secretary and his colleagues of Arunachal Pradesh for their unconditional support to make education affordable for all. BJP workshop

ITANAGAR, May 02: In order to prepare the party activists for the ‘Maha Sampark Abhiyaan,’ the state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) held a day-long workshop at Palin for party workers of Kurung Kumey and Kra Daadi yesterday.

State BJP President Tai Tagak dwelt at length on the movement of the party, its philosophy and various measures taken up by the party at the Centre for the women, poor and the downtrodden. He congratulated the party workers for creating record by registering more than one lakh new members in the party just five months.

Since the first phase of membership drive is already over the second phase would be to approach these registered members at their doorsteps. The third phase would be to ensure participation of members in training and workshops while whole exercises would be concluded with reorganization of the party structure, Tagak informed.

Kra Daadi district unit of BJP was declared by the state party President Tagak on the day.

Pradesh Sampark Pramukh Nani Lajie explained in details the procedures of Mahasampark Abhiyan which was supplemented by Pradesh Sah Pramukh Vijay Sonam.

A documentary film on the history, achievement and movement of the Bharatiya Janata Party was also screened on the occasion.

Party’s district and frontal wings office bearers, workers and prominent leaders of the area attended the workshop.

Training on NERPAP

ITANAGAR, May 02: Following the decision of the Election Commission of India to launch National Electoral Rolls Purification and Authentication Programme (NERPAP) in the country and for seeding Aadhar/NPR number in the electoral data base as a part of NERPAP, the Chief Electoral Office, Arunachal Pradesh has conducted a training on NERPAP for EROs/AEROs at Itanagar, Bomdila and Namsai on May 2.

While inaugurating the training programme, the Chief Electoral Officer Kaling Tayeng said that all photos and details in Photo Electoral Rolls should be verified through BLOs to ensure clear photos and collect details. He also stressed on verification of around 16000 odd doubtful voters generated by de-duplication software.

The training was imparted by the SLMT which was trained in New Delhi recently.

The NERPAP programme had already been launched in Arunachal Pradesh with effect from March 3, 2015, according to an official release.

WWO to conduct awareness prog on socio-economic issues

SEPPA, May 02: Expressing its concern over growing socio-economic problems in the East Kameng District, Women Welfare Organization (WWO) having completed its 26 years of existence held a meeting at Nyedar Namlo, Seppa today under the chairmanship of its president Veena Sonam Waii and adopted some important resolutions to tackle the issue.

The members present during the meeting, unanimously consented to conduct mass awareness programmes in phase manner on women & child related problems like child abuse, health and education. Besides that it will conduct much needed awareness on addiction of drugs & alcoholism, and selling of commodities in the market beyond MRP rates, informed Sara Bagang, information & publicity secretary WWO.

To encourage the female genders in the field of education, the members also decided to start felicitation programme for the meritorious girl students of class X and XII from govt schools.

Earlier, the meeting started with condolence for the Nepal earthquake victims. The members also remembered all the former WWO members, who are now no more.

Society mourns Kulo’s death

ITANAGAR, May 02: Heche Welfare Society (HWS) expressed profound grief and sorrow over sudden demise of A T Kulo on Thursday.

The Galo society has lost an invaluable member in his death, who always led from the front for the society’s cause, said HWS in a message.

While conveying condolence to the bereaved family, HWS prayed to almighty for rest his departed soul in peace.

Dumporijo MLA Paknga Bage termed the death of Kulo a big blow to the society.

He was a straightforward and visionary man, who always worked selflessly for uplifting the society. The void created by his death will be difficult to fill in, said MLA Bage.

While expressing profound grief and sorrow over his death, the MLA said Kulo will always be remembered by the people of Dumporijo for his contribution during his lifetime.

He conveyed heartfelt condolence to late Kulo’s family and prayed to almighty to rest his soul in eternal peace.

All Capital Complex Karga Ao Welfare Society has deeply mourned the death of A T Kulo.

“He was a dynamic leader and dedicated social worker. The void created by his demise will be felt by the society for a long time,” the Society said in a condolence message. The members of the Society prayed to Almighty God for heavenly peace of departed leader and for enough strength to the bereaved family to bear the irreparable loss.

In a condolence letter to wife of Late Rava, Yamak Rava, the Governor conveyed sincere condolences to the members of the bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul.

Army has to help out in border villages: Governor tells Parrikar

ITANAGAR, May 02: The Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar and Governor of Arunachal Pradesh Lt. General Nirbhay Sharma (Retd) discussed on security and border areas during a meeting at Raj Bhawan here today.

Stating that it is imperative that the border villages have to be self-sustaining and self-reliant, the Governor said the Army and Air Force units deployed on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) have to play a significant role in the implementation of developmental model in addition to national territorial security. He requested the defence minister for initiating in polling some infrastructure, communication, health and other logistic facilities of the armed forces with civil population. Such initiative will instil sense of security and strengthen nationalism amongst the local populace.

While reiterating for two more Advance Landing Grounds (ALG) in Kurung Kumey and Dibang Valley districts, the Governor suggested that in order to ensure optimum utilisation of the existing ALGs, the infrastructure so created must be utilized not only for defence purpose and carriage of civil passengers and goods but also for ferrying construction materials for infrastructure development as well.

Underscoring the vast experiences and specialization of Border Road Organisation in road construction in mountainous areas, the Governor suggested that BRO may be concentrated on Himalayan States. Such step will help in expediting the road projects, particularly in Arunachal Pradesh.

The Governor also reiterated the proposal for ecology Territorial Army battalion for the State.

The Governor assured all assistances from the State required for defence related projects in the State.

Arpoh, Kengcham captivate Tawang

TAWANG, May 02: The festival of Tawang came alive in its second day, with street show of various traditional dances performed at jam-packed old Market today. The traditional dances captivated thousands of audience including foreign and domestic tourists.

Thanks to bad weather, Union Minister of Defence Manohar Parrikar and Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju returned from half-way. With Manohar Parrikar and Rijiju pulling out, all formal programe had to be cancelled.

Traditional war dance ‘Arpoh’ with rumbling Dungchen as background music sent the audience into rapturous mood.

The synchronized moves of the dancers by swinging swords, wearing wooden craved masks made the atmosphere almost eerie.

It is said that Arpoh used to be a war dance but in modern times, it is performed to ward off evil spirit. Kengcham, a skeleton dance added more colour to the old market. More than thirty dancers participated in it.

The Kengcham, performed bare bodied in olden days, is to appease the deity for more crops production and wellbeing. The old market reverberated with deafening drum beat and Dungchen with the display of another traditional dance Ache Lhamo.

Bollywood hunk Arjun Rampal enthralled the audience during the cultural programe of the evening. Hundreds of people especially teenagers thronged the Festival ground to have glimpse of Rampal.

CM’s ten-point memo to Defence Minister

ITANAGAR, May 02: During the maiden visit of Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar to the state capital today, Chief Minister Nabam Tuki submitted a 10-point memorandum which includes, creation of two more Scouts Units, Liaison Offices of Ministry to be established in Arunachal Pradesh, relaxation in height norms for Arunachalee boys and girls in the Army recruitment, infrastructure facilities in border areas for general public, Establishment of Army hospitals and schools in Arunachal Pradesh, Maintenance of roads, setting up of 2 (Two) Eco Battalions,100% funding for setting up of Sainik School, Airfield at Anini and Koloriang and dual use of Airfield.

Responding to the memorandum, the Union Minister assured the Chief Minister that he will extend all possible support with utmost attention.

The meeting was also attended by state Home Minister Tanga Byaling, Minister of Agriculture & Horticulture and Animal Husbandry Minister, Chowna Mein, Civil supply, Mines & Mineral and WRD Minister, Komlung Mossang, Minister Civil Aviation and Science & Technology, Tangwang Wangwham, Health and Family Welfare Minister, Rajesh Tacho.

Chief Secretary and top bureaucrats from the Ministry and State Govt including the Chief of Army, General Dalbir Singh also attend the meeting.

Meanwhile, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar today cancelled his day-long visit to Tawang due to inclement weather.

Parrikar, who reached Tezpur in Assam's Sonitpur district yesterday on a two-day visit to Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, could not materialize his trip to Tawang despite his two attempts from Rangia in Assam due to unfavourable climate, defence officials said.

The defence minister was to visit forward areas to meet troops deployed in the border district.

AdiSU alleges irregularity in recruitment process, demands cancellation of appointments

ITANAGAR, May 02: Alleging gross irregularity in the recruitment process against 10 contractual staff under DPO (SSA), Namsai, Adi Students Union (AdiSU) has demanded immediate cancellation of all appointments and conduct of fresh interview in a transparent manner.

The authority had neither published any advertisement in local newspapers for the posts nor conducted written test for selection of candidate thus violating the norms and guidelines of recruitment rules, claimed AdiSU in its complaint letter to Namsai Deputy Commissioner, who also is DPD (SSA), Namsai. AdiSU also alleged that Rs. 200 in cash was charged from each candidate as the fee for application form instead of through Treasury Challan.

While drawing the attention of the DC cum DPD towards a similar recruitment at Pangin, where the basic rules of recruitment were followed thoroughly by floating advertisement and maintaining other laid down norms, AdiSU sought an explanation from him as to why the mode and process of recruitment vary from district to district within the state.

According to AdiSU, the application form fee charged from candidate in Pangin was Rs.100 whereas it was Rs. 200 in Namsai.

Rampal to be ambassador of Arunachal Tourism

TAWANG, May 02: Bollywood star Arjun Rampal has been made a brand ambassador of Arunachal Tourism.

Rampal has accepted the Tourism Minister Pema Khandu's proposal on behalf of Government of Arunachal to be a brand ambassador.

The Bollywood star said that he would take Arunachal Pradesh to the world map by promoting its rich tourism potential. Arunachal is yet to open up its opportunities, he added.

He was addressing the frenzy crowd at Tawang Festival here this evening.

“Since you are giving me huge responsibility as brand ambassador of Arunachal Tourism, I will try my best to take Arunachal to new height" Rampal assured. He further said “since College days I am attached with Arunachal."

Students demand fresh recruitment

ITANAGAR, May 02: Longding District Students’ Union (LDSU) has lodged complaint of irregularities in the recruitment process for various posts under SSA Mission in Longding district with the Secretary (Education).

The complaint letter to the Secretary Education claimed that the State Project Director, SSA Rajya Mission had notified a total of 18 posts (District Project Director-1, District Project Officer -1, Coordinator- 5, Junior Engineer-1, Cashier-1, Accountant-1, Office Assistant- 2, Data entry operator -2, Driver-1, Peon-3), out of which only seven posts ( of Junior Engineer-1, Cashier-1, Office Assistant- 2, Data Entry operator -2, Driver-1) were notified and called for interview from the office of District Project officer, SSA District Mission, Longding. Why did not the SSA Mission Authority in Longding issue notice for the remaining posts and recruit candidate against these posts following the SSA SPD, Rajya Mission order, questioned the students union.

The students union also objected to non-inclusion of technical experts and Panchayat members as the members of the recruitment Board and collection of Rs. 100 each from the appearing candidates as examination fee. According to LDSU, no application forms were issued for the Walk-in- Interview and CCTV cameras installed anywhere in the room/hall where the interviews were held.

The students union demanded to re-conduct the interview afresh for all the 18 posts by cancelling the earlier interview failing which the students union threatened to resort to democratic movement against the concern authority.

13 national waterways in North-East

Centre announces Rs 20,000-cr road projects

GUWAHATI, May 02: Centre will bring in a piece of legislation soon to declare 13 more national waterways on as many rivers in the North-East. Union Road Transport, Highways and Shipping Minister Nitin Jairam Gadkari said this at a press conference here.

These rivers are Barak, Lohit, Subansiri, Gangadhar, Aai, Beki, Puthimari, Kopili, Dihing, Dhansiri, Dikhow, Doyang and Tlawng.

"Construction of a ship repair facility at Pandu in Guwahati will start by October this year. We will have a dry dock there at a cost of Rs 50 crore," the Minister said.

Meanwhile, making up for the lost ground, the Centre today said it will start Rs 20,000-crore road projects, besides developing inland waterways, in the North-East by the end of this year to improve infrastructure in the region.

"By the end of December this year, we will award road projects worth Rs 20,000 crore in the North-East. These will be spread across the region for improving the infrastructure, which will help the economy of the North-East," he said.

The projects will have a long gestation period and will be implemented by public sector undertakings, besides private entities, in the public-private partnership mode, he added. "Of these, around Rs 6,000-crore projects will be in Arunachal Pradesh while projects worth of Rs 8,000 crore will be developed in Assam. The remaining will be for other parts of the region," Gadkari said.

Currently, Rs 31,025 crore worth of roads running into over 3,700 km are under development, which are being constructed by 10 players through 104 projects.

Gadkari, in the same breath, called upon north-eastern states to acquire land and secure necessary environmental clearances before the Ministry of Road Transport and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) can go ahead with these projects. He said the central government will encourage local contractors in the region by awarding smaller sizes of road projects, thus providing employment there.

"These measures will ease the bottlenecks in establishing road projects," he added. PTI

International Labour Day celebrated at Pasighat

PASIGHAT, May 02: The International Labour Day was celebrated by the East Siang unit of All Arunachal Pradesh Labour Union (AAPLU) at College of Horticulture and Forestry premises here yesterday in presence of a large number of workers/labourers.

In his address, Prof. A K Pandey, Dean of College of Horticulture and Forestry, while appreciating the labour force for their sincerity and dedication, called upon them to maintain the same tempo and spirit for proper development of Arunachal Pradesh.

According to Prof. Pandey, the best way to make the celebration successful is to honor the contribution of man and woman workers by providing them a better environment as well as opportunity to face various challenges. He further opined that a nation could go far ahead in development front by defending the rights and safeguarding the interests of the labour class. He distributed helmets, gumboots and geometry boxes to the attended lobourers on the occasion.

Earlier Zonal Chairman, Tabiram Moyong gave his commitment to bring in positive reform for the working class. He further highlighted fifteen welfare schemes and measures being taken up by the union for the benefits of labour class meant for housing, education, health and insurance etc. He also read the message of the local MLA Kaling Moyong.

AAPLU East Siang President Tani Jamoh urged the government for levying CESS on education, health etc at district level and also to involve union executive members in DPC.
